Garry and Derek "the brothers" present and welcome you to Berja Retreat.
The history of ‘Berja Retreat’ that is was a working farm producing olives and fruit for market, which is the main source of income from this region. The area is renown for its ‘green houses’ producing the market crop of export to Europe. There is still a working operation from a farm next door that helps maintains the character of this retreat with the olive plantation, vines, apple and orange trees. Try the locally grown tomatoes, melon, peppers, oranges and lemons.
Situated 35km south of Almeria, in the foothills of the Alpujarras between the coastal town of Adra and the ancient hill town of Berja, this self contained apartment offers the discernable traveller a welcome break and relaxation from the fast pace of modern living with the tranquillity of being in the mountains while only 10 km from the beach. This serene environment shared with the swallows, crickets and bee catchers for company, together with the vistas of the mountains and the dependable warm climate to enjoy all year round outdoor living, relaxation and exploring real Spain. This is not a Costa del Sol package but a real spanish retreat with all the trimmings to highten the senses.
The complex boasts of a self-contained holiday apartment that has off road parking outside with its own access and is separated from the main villa. It has an open plan kitchen / living room with all mod-cons and air-conditioning / heating with a wood burner.
There are two double bedrooms that can be configured to singles or doubles depending on the requirement, as well as a toilet and shower. There is private area for al fresco dining, shade in the trees to lazy around, or top your tan up on the secluded patio admiring the local views. There is access to a swimming pool as well.
This retreat has an alpine feel with the climate; hot during the summer with changeable days during the colder winter months and snowing on the big mountains, that can be seen from the retreat.
Great opportunity to explore and enjoy the region which offers beaches that are 10 minute drive to from the retreat or within an hour, a drive will take you into the mountains. Travelling another hour brings you to Granada and the glories of the Alhambra palace and the ski resort of Pradollano in winter.
This offers opportunties for cycling on class routes with alpine climbs and descends, mountain biking, hillwaking, mountaineering, skiing, trail running as well as offering to visit the local national parks, marina, golf courses or just unwinding.
Both Adra and Berja offer variety of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a tapas and a glass of wine and there is always a fiesta going locally somewhere in the district. Or just chill out on the complex eating some freshly caught fish, drinking the local Rioja, watching the swallows and bats contest for the insects while the sun drops and revealing the Spanish milky way.
Kitchen / dining area
As the climate cools, the area is fantastic for mountain walking, mountaineering, winter skills, skiing, overnight wild camping in the Sierra Nevada national park. There are alpine huts, great cycle and mountain biking routes. Hiring a car will add flexibility to travel to the national park on the coast, drive down to the fishing town of Adra and enjoy the local eaties along the sea front. Or, travel into the mountains and visit unspolit spanish villages of Turon, Trevelez and Berchules; undertake one of the many different walks, tackle some of the cycling as visited by the Vueltra a Espana in August this year or just admire the views and space across southern Spain.
During the summer, the days can be spent reading, relaxing while topping up your tan during the hot sultry afternoons, with the cool morning and evenings, go for a walk, run or cycle in this quiet, beauiful area, maybe a swim in the pool with some yoga on the patio. Berja Retreat facilitates that connection.
We suggest using a carrier that flies to Almeria like Easy Jet or Jet2 because it’s only a 45 min drive from the airport to the door. Otherwise Malaga or Murcia with the ensuing 3-hour car journey. Car hire - Please ensure you account for any mileage surcharges with your hirer as they may enforce limits on travel.
Both Garry and Derek look forward to your stay with us. We love our customers, so feel free to visit.
Prices and availablility on request depending on your requirements.
